Every year the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust hosts a housewalk fundraiser that celebrates architecture, design and Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park. As a volunteer with the Trust for over 11 years I have seen a lot of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in Oak Park, but not as much in other areas. So naturally, I was excited when I heard this year’s event would be exclusively Frank Lloyd Wright – thus the name All Wright. An added bonus is the new expansion into Hyde Park with the never before featured Isidore H. Heller House. Nearby, the Robie House is a landmark of modern architecture in Chicago, and thanks to the attraction of the Heller House it got some much deserved added attention.
This is the weekend I affectionately dubbed #wrightapalooza on instagram from 5.15 – 18.2014

All Wright in the Loop
The Rookery – 5.15.2014
A few days before the main event kicked off in Oak Park, I was down in the Loop at the historic Rookery. The Rookery was designed by Byrnnham & Root in 1888. It was remodeled in 1905 by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Trust now has offices here and gives tours, but it was once where Frank Lloyd Wright had an office and the original high-rise of Chicago. The silent auction was a success, even though I really wanted to get the tour of a toy factory, I’d have even settled for the out-of-production Robie House lego set.

This is a Frank Lloyd Wright Design from 1905 which was remodeled by Wright in 1955. The remodel included custom furniture made by Heritage-Henredon, blonde mahogany woodwork and a steeped cieling, and opening up the floor plan even more. The house is so unique because of the giant elm tree sprouting through the interior that marries nature and architecture so perfectly. Because of the later remodel, this is a rare view in Oak Park of Wright’s Unsonian style.
Back in April 2014 I was given a rare inside look at the home to photograph on behalf of the All Wright research captain and with permission from the owner. The following are highlights from that tour, notice the open layout, elm tree, custom Wright furniture and perfect Ed Paschke artwork.

This large three-storied home was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1897. This building was at the tipping point of Wright’s Prairie inspiration. The ornamentation on the exterior recalls his early years working for Adler & Sullivan. The three floors are different but intertwining and not just by the Frank Lloyd Wright added elevator. It was meant for entertaining and that’s still it’s function today. The current owners have currently listed the home for sale and allowed me to photograph the inside. Since I was a volunteer for the Heller House for All Wright on Sunday, as part of training we were given a chance to see the home prior to the event. This is the first time it has been on the tour and possibly the last, it was time to cease the moment.
